Join our innovative, hands-on training program

Teen Naturalists will learn nature program leadership, environmental issues, how healthy forest ecosystems function and restoration techniques to keep forests healthy.

Who:  13- and 14-year-olds (Must be 13 by June 30, 2008)
What: A hands-on training program designed to introduce young teenagers to nature
interpretation, environmental education, forest restoration and park stewardship.
Where:  Greenbelt Environmental Education Center at High Rock Park (Directions)

When:  Weekdays, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Cost:  $54 per session for Greenbelt Conservancy members, $60 per session for non-members .

full season discount, which must be booked by April 27, is available for $225 for members or $250 for non-members. A certificate of completion will be issued to those who attend the entire course. (Join now and save all year!)
An Additional Sibling Discount (anytime throughout the season) takes $10 off the registration fee.

Session 1: July 7-11
BIRDS OF NEW YORK – New York City is home to hundreds of different types of resident and migratory birds. Learn how to identify birds and the mechanics of flight. We’ll take a boat tour of New York Harbor and check out herons in their nesting habitat.

Session 2: July 14-18
HUMANS AND HABITATS – Humans have made quite an impact on New York City’s natural habitats. Can’t we all just get along? Learn how our lifestyles affect local species and take an all-day field trip.

Session 3: July 21-25
WHAT A WASTE!  – After this week, you will never look at rubbish the same way again! Learn about waste reduction and what you can do to abate our growing garbage problem. Includes a field trip to the Staten Island Botanical Garden to learn about composting.

Session 4: July 28- Aug. 1
VEGETATION CELEBRATION
Let’s hear it for the plants! Investigate the pivotal roles that flowers, plants, and trees play in our lives. Includes a field trip to the Greenbelt Native Plant Center on July 30.

Session 5: Aug. 4-8
CAREER WEEK
How can someone help the Earth while on the job? Learn how everyone can live environmentally friendly lifestyles no matter what profession they choose. Guest speakers will help you explore different occupations. Includes a field trip. On your registration form, please include careers you are interested in and we will try to get experts in each field. 

CANCELLATIONS

A 20 percent non-refundable fee will be applied to all cancellations made prior to May 25. Cancellations made May 25 through June 15 will be subject to a 50 percent fee.
No refunds can be made after June 15.
