The Greenbelt is a string of forests, meadows, streams, ponds, hiking trails, parks and recreational areas - about 2,800 acres in all - across the heart of Staten Island.

Founded in 1989, the Greenbelt Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. The Conservancy works in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to preserve and protect the Greenbelt for public use and enjoyment.

No. The Greenbelt's lands are free and open to the public. There are fees for some of our programs and events. Rates are reduced for Greenbelt members.

The significant discounts for events, summer camp tuition and carousel tickets are all good reasons to join the Greenbelt Conservancy. Perhaps the best reason, though, is that your tax-deductible membership helps keep the Greenbelt green and free.

The Greenbelt Conservancy offers several levels of memberships for individuals, families and companies. The benefits for each level of membership are different. To choose the one that is right for you, visit our Membership page. The cost of membership in the Conservancy is tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
