The Greenbelt Photo Contest 2006

Water lilies, their floating pads unfurled, vie for a patch of sunlight on a Greenbelt pond.

Walking down a quiet trail in the Greenbelt,
I feel like I’m in the middle of the wilderness.
The canopy of the forest completely surrounds me.
The smells, sights, and sounds of nature totally arouse my senses:
the smell of sweet perfume from the honeysuckles that hug the trail,
the sight of frogs lounging at the edge of a pond,
and the sound of a babbling brook meandering
beneath the footbridge that I walk across.

Finally I work my way out of the Greenbelt, so close
to where I live and still a world away.
I will return again soon. My well-being depends on it.
